At SHYC, our instructors are simply lights guiding you on the pathway home. It is an honor to have many different types of teachers, with very different backgrounds, offering their unique and special gifts to our community.
We all look forward to sharing the practice of yoga with you.
Tracy began practicing yoga in 1996 after a life-changing event challenged her to redefine her life. She was so grateful for the healing gift of yoga that she dedicated her life to becoming a yoga teacher and helping others. Tracy is a playful and spirited teacher who combines open-hearted vinyasa flow with unique transitions in order to find the greatest source of release and strengthening. Her classes are designed to be challenging. (Be prepared to sweat!) She emphasizes a joyful practice. Tracy is blessed and fortunate to have studied and completed teacher trainings with Max Strom, Erich Schiffman, Shiva Rea, and Sherry Bourman. She has taught yoga for twelve years and practiced almost every day for sixteen years. In her quest to broaden her horizons she practices Shadow Yoga and Qi Gong with her teacher, Matt Schwartz and Kalari with Gerhard Schmidt.
In 1990 Sue Darling took her first yoga class and since has never looked back. In 1993 Sue found her greatest inspiration and direction for her yogic potential when she met BKS Iyengar teachings. In 1995 she started a three year Teachers Training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles.
Sue became a certified Iyengar teacher in 1998 and has since studied with BKS Iyengar, Prashant Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, Abhijata Iyengar and regularly with senior teachers in the India, US, UK and Europe.
Sue has taught classes and workshops in USA, UK, Europe and the Caribbean.
When I step off the yoga mat I feel energized, and connected to my inner-self. Originally drawn to Yoga in 1998, for the health benefits, I found relief from low back pain and arthritis. Grateful for ease of physical movement, I studied with Farzenah Noori, Bruce Schwartz, Tiffany Cruickshank, Tias Little and many more. In 2014, I completed my Hatha yoga teacher certification. Yoga has ignited a passion for continuing study of the relationship between yoga and body mechanics. My intention is to create a safe space where students can be guided to experience greater freedom of movement in their bodies and minds. I'm grateful for the possibility of better health through each breath of yoga.
I walked into a yoga class in 2006 curious to see what it was all about. At the end of the class I experienced such a sense of calm and serenity that I had never felt doing just exercise. I was mesmerized. I wanted more of this and I wanted to offer this kind of mind/body connection to others! I did my initial training with the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara in 2008 and fell in love with vinyasa flow yoga. My natural style is a blend of athleticism and relaxation to encourage inner tranquility that quiets the mind and brings a clarity of focus. I’m a “doer” and asana practice helps me be still and listen with more intention. I’ve trained with teachers all over the country and bring elements from other styles of yoga into my practice. In 2016 I finished a year-long advanced training through Yoga Blend in Burbank which focused on the other 7 limbs of yoga. Having practiced now for 12 years I feel the benefits of a regular personal practice and how it connects me to the rest of my life and helps clarify goals, achieve dreams and stayed grounded. I love teaching students and encouraging them in their own practice.
